Nessfield Primary School

Learning for Life

A Warm Welcome from the Nessfield Governors

Whether you are visiting this site for the first time;
or whether you are the parent of one of our pupils;
or if you are thinking of sending your child to our school;
or if your child already attends Nessfield,
we hope you find this information useful.

First and foremost, as Governors of Nessfield, we are proud to play a part in ensuring the best possible education for all the children. We are a dedicated team who share a real concern and interest in the life and work of the school.

The governing body has three main roles. We work alongside the senior management team to oversee the progress of the school, we check that the systems and procedures are in place and are followed properly and we contribute to the long term planning of the school. In summary the Governors are often described as the Critical Friends to the school, a great description of our work.

So how do we achieve this?

We meet as a full governing body twice each term. Some of the work of the governing body is done by committees which also meet twice each term. Among other things the committees discuss finance, personnel, the curriculum, welfare, building and site, and health and safety.

Apart from meetings there are many other ways in which the Governors are involved in the school. To name just a few - a group of governors spends two full days each year in school visiting classes, meeting children and discussing current issues with staff. Individual governors also visit lessons, make health and safety and site visits, attend assemblies and productions and accompany trips.

The governing body is drawn from the parents, school staff, community and local authority. The term of office as a Governor is four years, but many Governors stand for re-election and serve more than one term.
